Start taking your photographs now!
Just in case you don't already know, we are using different sizes for digital entries from January 2010 onwards. This will apply to ALL 2010 internal competitions. Instead of 768 pixels high, your images should now be a maximum of 1080 pixels high. The maximum width has increased from 1024 pixels to 1920 pixels.
Please note, for a standard ratio (3:2) photo, a height of 1080 pixels will give a width of around 1620 pixels in the landscape format.
Similarly, if you are entering a portrait format photograph, selecting a height of 1080 should give you a width of around 810 pixels. (Portrait format photos should NOT be 1920 pixels high!)
We suggest that when resizing your entries you select a height of 1080 pixels and then check to see if the width exceeds 1920 pixels. In most cases it will not. This system will only fail if you are entering a panoramic or widescreen shot. If so, selecting a height of 1080 pixels may lead to the width becoming more than 1920 pixels. For such photogaphs, select the width of 1920 pixels first (and the height should be less than 1080).
Remember, the width should never exceed 1920 pixels and the height should never exceed 1080 pixels.
Please note, you can still use the old 1024x768 sizes but such photographs will appear much smaller on the judges screen and when projected!!
If you need any advice, please ask Alan Shepherd or Leigh Woolford.

In a lively June committee meeting the list of ideas for set subjects was presented to the committee.
After much discussion and voting it was decided that the 2010 set subjects will be:
February - PRIMARY COLOUR (You may wish to see The Mole's attempts to discover which colours are primary).
April - SHAPES - For the Jim Davis Trophy
June – SOLITARY - For the President's Trophy
November – BAD WEATHER - for the Freespirit Images Shield
For all other competitions and challenges the theme will be OPEN.
The near misses that made the final vote but didn't get selected were 'Nightlife', 'Glass', 'Industry', 'Leisure, 'Rural', 'Rock', 'Travel' and 'Action'.
You may be interested to hear that among the unsuccessful suggestions were such gems as 'Just Add Water', 'On the Farm', 'Opulence', 'Sanctuary', 'Fashion' and 'Flower Power'. The committee wondered whether there is a masochistic streak in the club.
