With over 80 members 'Gwynfa' is not only the largest but one of the friendliest camera clubs in Wales. It exists to facilitate, encourage & promote the enjoyment of photography in the local community. Our Club President, Kevin Thomas MA FRPS extends a message of welcome here.
Our regular club meetings are held at Caerlan Hall, Llantrisant on Thursdays at 7.15pm and we finish around 9.45pm. Many of us then stroll to the local 'The Bear Inn' to continue our conversations. Here we also enjoy a glass of shandy and some delicious home made sandwiches from our hosts Tammy & Gwyn.
Our aim is to encourage photographers at all levels and exponents of every single kind of photography. Members are of all ages (from 10 to 80+) and from various walks of life. Both sexes are strongly represented so anyone can walk in and feel right at home. We also have full disabled access and facilities.
Gwynfa isn't a school of photography but a vast amount of knowledge is to be gained by regularly attending meetings. Members are always available to provide informal advice and our programme of events includes a well balanced mix of club and inter-club competitions, discussions, visiting expert speakers and social events.
Thanks to the support of 'Awards for All Wales' and 'The Arts Council of Wales' we have in recent years been able to obtain up to the minute presentation facilities for prints, slides and digital photographs. We have also recently invested in a public address system to ensure that guest speakers and judges can always be clearly heard during their presentations.
Gwynfa Camera Club's membership of the Welsh Photographic Federation (WPF), the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB), the Federation International de l'art Photographique (FIAP) and the Photographic Society of America (PSA) facilitates strong links with other clubs, photographers and federations both nationally and internationally. We take part in numerous annual photographic events including 'the WPF Memorial Trophy', 'the Barrian Cup', 'the Ace of Clubs' and 'the Stanley Chell Memorial Trophy'. In 2004, 2006 and 2008 we were chosen to represent Wales at the PAGB National Slide Champonships in Warwick where one of our members achieved best slide in 2004. In 2007 we represented Wales at the PAGB National Print Championships at Connah's Quay. We do so again in 2008. We ourselves organise 'Pixels' an annual competition for digitally projected images which is open to all Welsh clubs. Last year 25 clubs took part and over 120 people attended on the day. There are also numerous national and international photographic salons and competitions for individual members to enter including 'the Welsh Salon', 'the Welsh International Projected Images Salon', 'the Bristol International Salon', 'the Swansea International' as well as many others far to numerous to list here.
Why not come along FREE OF CHARGE for a few evenings, enjoy the show, have a cuppa and meet some of our members? You'll be guaranteed a warm welcome. Should you then decide to join you can visit our 'How Do I Join?' page or ask for a prospectus. If you still have unanswered questions, please 'Contact Us' for further information.
URGENT NOTE: Overwhelming success in attracting new members coupled with constraints on available seating space means that we have regrettably had to close our membership books until further notice. If you wish to be added to our waiting list, please complete and submit a membership application form in the usual manner but do not send a fee. We will then contact you when a place becomes available. Please note, there are camera clubs all over South Wales and a full list can be found here.
Gwynfa Camera Club would like to extend a huge 'thank you' to Neil Aubin without whom this website would not exist.
