HISTORY
REMEMBER GWYNFA TIMES?
Long before this website became the voice of Gwynfa Camera Club we relied on a venerable publication called 'Gwynfa Times'. It was produced over many years, had many editors (including Philippa Wood, Nigel Butters and Leigh Woolford) and many methods of production, from typing and photocopying to word processing and desktop publishing. Have a look, there are some really interesting memories.
Archive copies published between February 2002 and March 2004 can now be found here.
Archive copies published between January 1998 and February 1999 can now be found here.
MERIT TABLES DOWN THE YEARS
TROPHY WINNERS DOWN THE YEARS
A table showing most of the winners of Gwynfa Trophies from 2000 to date can be found HERE and from 1981-1999 can be found HERE. The trophies included are: Photographer of the Year, Winner of Winners, The George Sharland, the Stanley Chell, the Jim Davis, the Presidents Trophy, the Freespirit Shield, the Caerlan Cup, the Monochrome Challenge and the Digital Image Trophy. From 2009 there will be some new trophies namely 'The Colour Print Challenge and 'The Projected Images Challenge'.
We have also compiled a 'breakdown by photographer' of who has won these 'majors' over the years. Gary Green leads the pack with 17 'majors' (that's almost one for each of the letters after his name!). How do you match up? Check the figures HERE.
We note with interest (and surprise) that between 1981 and now, no one has won ALL ten 'major' trophies at least once! The highest are Gary and Leigh who have each won seven of the ten and Colin who has won six. This info is (hopefully) correct up to the end of 2008. However, it is not entirely complete as we still haven't discovered the winners of the George Sharland and Brian Jordan awards between 1981 and 1986. (We are not even sure if they were held in those years).
Research continues.... Can you help? Do you have any old handbooks? Did you win those 'missing' trophies? Contact Leigh if you do!
