MAKE YOUR OWN EOS
If you would like to make your own EOS camera, Canon has created a tutorial to get you started. It is only a balsa wood replica, but give it a coat of paint and it might look like the real thing - from a distance. There is a point to the process - Canon uses the technique in the early stages of designing new models. |
YOU TUBE FILM OF EOS 10 EXPLODED
However, if you want to see what really goes into the assembly of an EOS camera, take a look at an amazing animation available via YouTube. Three students on an Advanced Engineering Design Graphics course at the University of California 'explode' an EOS 10D and then show how the parts fit together. It's all done with 'floating' components - no fingers, thumbs or screwdrivers in sight. Great music, too. |
PRINT YOUR OWN LENS HOODS
From the sublime to the...well, not as ridiculous as it might sound. If you need a quick-fix lens hood, you can print out a pattern and fold it to fit. Templates for a wide range of Canon EF lenses are available. You will need an A3 printer for some of the larger lenses. We recommend printing on copier paper, then laying this in thin black card and cutting round the lines. Not as good as the real thing, but worth trying in an emergency. |
HAVING TROUBLE SEEING YOUR RAW FILES? YOU MAY NEED SOME RAW THERAPEE
I came across a remarkable RAW file converter called RAW THERAPEE. It is capable of reading RAW files from lots of camera including the Canon EOS 40D (CS2 doesn't). It is a surprisingly clever little tool which gives you all sorts of bells and whistles. Best of all... it's FREE and well worth a try... DOWNLOAD HERE |

Nikon NX Tutorial available from Dave Gould
Dave Gould has very kindly produced a short, basic tutorial on Nikon Capture NX outlining what it does and how it does it. It is a PTE (V.5_B15) EXE file (Picture to EXE) which is about 50Mb in size with a music track. It is optimised for 1280x1024 viewing but will fit to any screen. If any Nikon user is interested get in touch with DAVE HERE or talk to him at club. The easiest way to get a copy of the file would be via transfer to a memory key on Thursday evening. |
Resizing and Borders in Photoshop
Those of you attending the practical evening last Thursday may have seen Leigh's brief tutorial on how to re-size photographs as 'digital entries' and how to add a border to improve presentation. Following on from this Dave Gould has very kindly put together a printable version of this information and it is available HERE. This is an Adobe Acrobat document which opens automatically if you have the Adobe reader installed. If you don't have this 'reader' you can get it here: |
Do you enter digital photos into monthly competitons?
Due to continuing problems with 'digital entries', Leigh is moved to tell us (and he takes some moving) the main problems we are making. EVERYONE who makes digital entries should read this page; You may be surprised to find you are getting it wrong too!! So pull up a comfortable chair, get yourself a cuppa and some supplies and click HERE.
