GWYNFA PHOTO MARATHON - RESULTS
Cowbridge was a very wet and cold place on Thursday 15th July yet a dozen hardy souls braved the deluge to take part in the Gwynfa mini photo marathon. Entrants had up to 2½ hours to take five photographs on five subjects in the correct order. The five subjects were "Wet", "On The Move", "Street Life", "Looking Up" and "Self Portrait". Organiser Leigh is very impressed by the quality and inventiveness of the photographs submitted particularly considering the dire conditions. Well done to Teresa, Andy, Betty, Heidi, Alec, Allan Squires, Nick, Alan Shepherd, Gary W., Cecilia and Philippa for coming out and getting stuck in on such a terrible night.
The winners WERE:
WET - Cecilia Hannigan-Davies - photo here
ON THE MOVE - Nick Jenkins - photo here
STREET LIFE - Cecilia Hannigan-Davies - photo here
LOOKING UP - Teresa Baker - photo here
SELF PORTRAIT - Andy Baker - photo here
BEST PANEL OF FIVE PHOTOGRAPHS - Alec Stewart - photos here
Special thanks to judge Gary Green for his deliberations and interesting statistics. It was interesting to note that Alec Stewart completed the task in 20 minutes and Nick Jenkins in 21 minutes. At the other end of the scale were Heidi Stewart (52 minutes) and Alan Shepherd (51 minutes). It was also noteable that Nick Jenkins took all five of his shots from within 3 metres of the pub doorway! Philippa Wood and Andy Baker took only 9 photos each. The aforementioned Alan Shepherd took over 50. The winners received some very nice 'poundstretcher' prizes ranging from an inflatable travel cushion and a pencil set for subject winners to the grand prize of a 'Captain Kirk' action figure for the overall panel winner. |
GWYNFA IN THE OBSERVER
There is a two page spread of Gwynfa photographs in the Pontypridd & Llantrisant Observer (28th July). Thanks to Betty Walker for organising this.
The editor of the paper has asked us to remind you that Gwynga members can also send photos direct to the paper. So if you have any landscape or urban studies of Pontypridd, Llantrisant, the Rhondda or anywhere relevant to this publication and you would like to see them published, send them to pontypridd.observer@walesonline.co.uk
Please include a description of the scene and your name and town of origin and make sure you tell them you are a member of Gwynfa Camera Club.
Photos should be jpeg attachments and LARGER than 2 megabytes. You may get published so it is worth a try! |

Just to keep you in the loop, the Half Iron Man took place on Sunday, and I managed to get round finishing a total of 75th out of a field of 174. My overall time was 6 hours 19 minutes, which I am pleased with. The boring bits on time are below:
Swim 1.2 miles (time taken from start of swim until leaving the transition area on the bike, which included a soggy 500 meter run) 51 mins 20seconds
Bike-58 miles (time taken from start of bike to star of run) 3 hours 11 minutes 22 seconds
Run (OUCH!!) 13.1 miles (yes...the .1 meant alot!!!) 2hours 17minutes 13seconds.
I would therefore like to thank you all for the sponsorship you have pledged, and if I have not yet recieved it I will gather the cash when I am back from my hols in 3 weeks.
It's not to late to pledge money to Dick. Contact him at rarrknill@hotmail.com

GWYNFA.ORG.UK - THREE YEARS AND COUNTING.....
This website went live on March 1st, 2007 so we celebrated our third anniversary a short while ago. At the time of writing the site has been in existence for 1162 days and during that time has received 255,709 page hits. This translates to an average 220 page hits per day. Not bad for a camera club website! A big thank you to everyone who has contributed or visited this site since it appeared. Extra special thanks to Neil Aubin who set up the initial site and made it easy for us to pick up the reigns and run. |
